Michael Werner is the Director of Master’s Programs and a Lecturer of Accounting at the Miami Business School, University of Miami. He joined the university in 1984. 

Michael has taught a wide range of accounting courses at all levels including US and international financial reporting and managerial accounting to undergraduates, MBA and executive MBA students, and Master of Accounting students. Michael has also conducted the international emersion course and trip to China for University of Miami graduate business students. Michael has received the Miami Business School Award for Excellence in Teaching for Undergraduate Business, Executive MBA, and Master of Accounting programs.

Since 2006, Michael has been associated with the Department of Accounting, School of Economics and Management (SEM) of Tsinghua University as a visiting professor, guest lecturer and editor. In 2006 Michael spent eight months at Tsinghua teaching financial, managerial, and intermediate accounting at SEM and Tsinghua’s Center for Overseas and Cultural Exchange (COACE). Tsinghua COACE prepared Chinese students for study in the United States and other countries. Since 2016 Michael visited Tsinghua SEM three times per year helping faculty in the Department of Accounting prepare their papers for publication in international academic journals.

Michael’s research interest include financial and managerial accounting and have focused recently on the use of the balanced scorecard by small and medium size enterprises. Michael has co-authored more than 15 editions of various financial and management accounting textbooks published by Prentice Hall, Pearson Education, LiXin Accounting Publishing, Shanghai, Kendall Hunt Publishing and Cybertext. Michael also authored the majority of the supplemental material for these texts including student hand books, instructor’s manuals, solutions manuals and test item files. Michael was on the author team of the financial accounting textbook written for use by the School of Accountancy at Arizona State University when the school received the American Accounting Association’sInnovation in Accounting Education Award for its financial accounting course.
